Best Pie Crust recipe

This is an easy pie crust that is also very easy to memorize. The best way to remember this is to count to three, 1-2-3! The recipe goes, 1 part water, 2 parts butter, 3 parts flour. Then add salt or sugar to taste. This recipe makes two 9-inch pie crusts.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 cups (or 1 pound) butter, cold and cut into pea size pieces
  • 1 cup of cold water
  • 1 teaspoon salt or sugar*

Directions:

  1. Place the butter, flour, and salt or sugar in a medium bowl.

  2. Rub the pieces of butter in between your fingers and into the flour. Do this until no lumps remain.

  3. Add the water one tablespoon at a time and mix with your fingers. Keep adding the water just until the dough comes together. It should be barely sticky.

  4. Form the dough into a ball and then move to a clean surface.

  5. Knead until firm and elastic, about 10 minutes.

  6. Cut the ball in half and form both halves into disks.

  7. Wrap these in plastic wrap and place in the refirgerator for at least 1 hour and up to one week.

  8. Dust a clean surface with flour and roll the dough out with a rolling pin until 1/8 inch thick.

  9. Use as desired.

Add salt or sugar depending if you want a sweet or savory flavor pie crust.
